DIY Gift Idea for Your Bridemaids

I know I have seen this idea on Pinterest or Etsy or some other do it yourself website catering to weddings so this may not be new to you. But I think this pouch is an easy do it yourself personal gift that the bride can give to her Bridemaids, Maid of Honor and even the Mother of Groom.

I found my pouches at an import store that sells merchandise from around the world. They actually monogram these which is another great idea. But since I had all the other supplies on hand I decided to Do It My Way

List of Supplies
Burlap pouches (6) or more
Lace (iron on, sew on or glue on)
Monogram letters, mine are peel and stick. Since I am not actually giving these away, I used what I had on hand.
Hot glue gun (optional), I used it because again I am not giving these away. If I was giving these away I would sew the lace in place.

Idea…. The possibilities are endless, you can use canvas or cloth pouches, the monogram can be in any color you choose and you can use as much or as little of the lace as you like. The idea is to Do It Your Way.

Design Idea 1: Lace and monogram on the corner of the pouch

Design Idea 2: Lace and monogram in the center of the pouch.

Design Idea 3: Lace trimming on the top front of the pouch and  monogram and lace on the corner. Do It Your Way….

Idea…As I was posting this I thought of another idea of using a colored lace or tassel type trimming that matches your wedding colors.

I think these are beautiful, inexpensive and easy to assemble, three of my favorite words.  It actually took me less than 2 hours to complete these with a glue.  Most of the time was spent trimming the lace.

Tell me what is your opinion

Spring has Sprung in South Carolina

Spring has sprung in South Carolina. We went from freezing  temperatures  two weeks ago to a steady 70 degrees with a few days in the 80s. Unfortunately , last year in late September early October we had a storm called the  2000 Year Flood. What had happen was, it rained 13 straight days. This caused lakes and rivers to overflow and dams to break, causing massive flooding. The dams have been repaired but the lakes and rivers and gullies are all still above normal levels. I said all of this to say that because of the excessive standing water we have Mosiquitoes, LARGE Mosquitoes.

This makes me happy ( not for the mosiquitos) but for the opportunity to plant. I love spending time in my yard, planting flowers of all types and entertaining. Perennials are my favorite, not only because they a beautiful but because they come back year after years.  That translates into less work as I get older. I have planted everything from Elephant Ears to Hydrangeas. This project will be focused on plants that will help to deter mosquitoes. I will still wear repellant but because of the size of these mosquitoes I think I need more help.

Beautiful rightMy first choice is Lavenderlavender-894919_1280

Beautiful right, I will not be planting a vinyard but a couple large pots full. Lavender requires full sun and can even be dried and used as an air freshener indoors, this will be a win, win.

My next choice is the Marigold

I chose the Marigolds  because I love the color combination yellow and the purple from the Lavender plant, pictured above. Although, the Marigolds are annuals, and will not come back next year , they are worth the investment. They will last until late Spring to early Summer if kept in partial sun. They are also one of the top 5 listed plants to deter mosquitoes.

My third choice is Lemon Balm

The Lemon Balm will be planted in a pot by itself because it is invasive, meaning it will show up where you did not plant it which can be a nousance  if you have a planned structured planted bed.  If I had an empty spot in a sunny location I would plant it in the ground and let it do what it naturally does because it is very fragant.

Some of the other choices would be Citronella, Mint, Peppermint and Rosemary, pictured above. All of these are very fragrant and as you can see the Rosemary has a beautiful, bluish purple colored flower. Just image the smell on a breezy Summer day.

Happy Spring

Ideas For A Frugal Bride

We all know that a wedding can cost in the thousands if you let it . The frugal bride finds a way to save on everything starting with getting herself dressed. Let’s start with the dressing the head . Will you wear a  crown, hair combs or maybe just a few jeweled hairpins. All of these can be hand-made in one hour or less, using real or silk flowers.

Now you need your bouquet, these too can be hand-made in an hour or two, with real or silk flowers also. As you see your bouquet can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. These same flowers can be used for the groom and groomsman .

10 Smart Ways to Save on your Wedding

Planning a wedding is stressful we known so saving a few bucks is always a win, win.

My suggestion

  1.  Get married in the courthouse.  This will eliminate several things, the fee  for the minister, the cost to decorate a church or hall, the cost of those flowers for the church or hall. As well as the cost for an expensive gown. Depending on the size of the  courtroom, at least 10 people can fit, which will be a nice size ceremony for less than $500.00, depending on the cost of the dress.

   2.   Hold your ceremony in the park in the Spring.   Hopefully, the flowers are in full bloom, this will eliminate the cost for flowers.

3.  Getting married during the holiday season. This will help to reduce your decorating cost because most businesses will already have some decorations in place, so you can add more or not.

4.  DIY your own flowers. Maybe you have a crafty friend that can help. Silk flowers come in an array of colors and all designs, plus they will last forever. Visit your local craft store most have discount coupons and everything else you will need. Vases for table decorations can come from the thrift store, yard sales or flea markets and can be spray painted any color you like.

5.  Have your ceremony and reception in the same location.  This will help with transportation cost, no limo required. Your out of town guest will not need to travel in unfamiliar places and possible become lost.

6.  Have your reception in a restaurant. This eliminates the hassle of having a venue set up with tables, linens, decorations, flowers and not to mention bring in the food. You will get one bill and the restaurant will provide everything.

7.  Don’t serve a sit down dinner.  You can cut your food bill in half by serving heavy hord’oeuveres. If you are having an outdoor wedding have an ice cream bar, morning wedding, set up a breakfast bar, if you are having a mid morning wedding, serve finger sandwiches.   Save money any way you can.

8.  Fake your wedding cake. Have a bakey decorate one or 2 layers of cardboard with the top layer real for cutting.  You can serve cupcakes  or buy a couple sheet cakes from your local grocery store and decorate with the same silk flower from your wedding.

9.  Don’t offer endless alcohol.  Serve 1 signature cocktail, beer from a keg and or wine.

10.  Be your own DJ. Plug in your playlist. Connect your phone to a speaker and party on.

Here is a  Free suggestion: If you have a friend that offers to bake your cake, decorate your venue or do anything for free, Let Them

The Best Ways to Save for your Spring Wedding

If you are planning a Spring wedding this blog will be your go to blog for saving on your big day. We know weddings can cost from a mere $5,000.00 to $50,000.00 . I plan to share Do It Yourself ideas, images of ideas, found discounts and sales and the latest trends all to help reduce your wedding budget cost.

I also know that the stress is in the details. So I offer an event assistant service. I had an event planning business several years ago and I know that juggling all the small details can be quite stressful whether you plan to spend $5K or $50K.

So let me help you with the small details like making favors for your 100 guest, making gifts for your bride maids, headpieces for you and your flower girl .  It would be my pleasure to help make your special day a perfect one.

In my previous post I spoke about getting married in a courthouse, small, intimate with a few friends and family members with a cost of $200.00, maybe.  This will cover the license and maybe your dress. This eliminates things like decorating the church and the fee for the minister, maybe the grooms tux and the cost of that expensive dress.

Hopefully, your courthouse  looks like these out front…….statue-964658_640lukas-county-1937446_640

The second way I suggested to eliminate or reduce the cost of your wedding was with the flowers. If you are getting married in the Spring have your ceremony in the park, a perfect place for taking pictures.hdkhsqzgfca-anne-edgarwedding-659418_1920bride-1867318_1280My 3rd suggestion was to Do It Yourself Flowers. They can be silk from your local craft store. But if you must have live don’t forget to check your local nursery  or garden store and spend half the cost.

Another suggestion was NOT to serve a sit down dinner. If you are having an early morning or  midday wedding serve a light lunch.

And don’t forget to either eliminate or fake the cake.  Purchase two sizes of a sheet cake from your local bakery and decorate it with silk flowers in your choice of colors. If you serve cookies they can also double as a  favor.

Having an open bar or even purchasing alcohol for a wedding can run into the $100s. So I suggest a signature drink, a keg of beer or wine for those who like to drink.
